In 1936 Oliver joined Cubs, then Scouts and Rover Scouts.

 

During the 1939-45 war, with two other patrol leaders, ran the troop.

 

During his military service in Benghazi, Libya, with three others he started and ran a Cub Pack.

 

He obtained hs first warrant in 1945 as Assistant Scoutmaster, then Scoutmaster and finally Group Scout Leader all with the 138th  Birmingham Group, 1st Sandwell.

 

Birmingham North West District:  A.D.C. Scouts and then District Commissioner, for 17 years.

 

Birmingham Scout County:  Co-organiser of trips abroad, to the Isle of Man and International camps with scouts from Europe.

 

Awards:  Long Service Award, Medal of Merit and Silver Wolf.

 

On his retirement he was made an Honorary Commissioner of the County of Birmingham.
