Lawrence E Haines, P.Prov.G.Reg.

Was born 14th February 1933, married Enid his very understanding and tolerant wife, in 1972.

Educated at Alcester Grammar School and in his working life had various positions with retail and commercial firms.

 

In the 1950’s was an officer in the Alcester Church Lads Brigade.   Became Officer in charge of the Alcester Company  until work commitments forced his retirement.

In the early ‘60s he helped out with the 1st Alcester Venture Scouts.   

On being asked by the District Commissioner to take on the duties of Group Scout Leader agreed to try the job for 6 months.   The Group then had £17.00 in the bank and an electricity bill for £37.00.  Needless to say, their problems were short lived by organised fund raising for the group.

They sent a scout to the World Jamboree in Japan and later another Scout, who was to go to Iran, which was cancelled but the boy went to a Jamboree in America instead.   

Some 15 years later he managed to retire.

 

Lawrence was initiated into Freemasonry in December 1989 into the Apollo Lodge in Alcester.   An old lodge with some rather strange traditions picked up over 200 years.

Became Worshipful Master of the Apollo Lodge 301 for 1993/4.

He was also Master for Apollo’s bi-centennial celebrations at Ragley Hall in 1994 when the lodge entertained the Pro Grand Master Lord Farnham.

He was again installed as Master in 2001.

 

The founding Charity steward of the Warwickshire Scout Lodge in 1997 and subsequently Almoner for 10 years.  He was Installed as Master by W.Bro John Perkins in April 2007.

 

He is also a member of the Warwickshire Installed Master’s Lodge.

 

He was appointed Past Provincial Junior Grand Deacon in 2000 and in 2007 was promoted to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Registrar.
