John Perkins, P.Prov.J.G.D.
John is one of two Founders of the Scout Lodge who was not a Scout, but served in the Boys Brigade.
He joined as a Life Boy in 1944 and then in the 5th Birmingham Company (based at Stirling Road Methodist Church, long since demolished) both as a Boy, then as a Warrant Officer and finally as a Lieutenant. It was only when he joined the Automobile Association in 1960 that he relinquished this role because of work commitments which meant he could not attend regularly.
He did National Service in the Royal Army Medical Corps and after returning home he applied his knowledge to become a Battalion First Aid Examiner for the Birmingham Battalion of the BB.
He maintains an interest in the BB and regularly attends reunions of the Birmingham Battalion
Masonically he became a Mason in 1994, joining Lodge of Impartiality, No 5101 (Scout Lodge's Mother lodge) where he became Master in 2000. Currently he is their Almoner and Charity Steward.
He has been a member of the Five Points Circle Lodge of Instruction since 1995 and has served as Secretary of the Circle since 2002.
He became Master of Warwickshire Scout Lodge in 2005.
He was honoured to be appointed as Past Provincial Grand Junior Deacon in the Province of Warwickshire in 2006.
