Warwickshire Scout Lodge No. 9648

Lodge History

At an Installation Meeting at the Warwickshire Masonic Temple in Edgbaston, W.Bro. Oliver Franklin, PProvJGD, was in discussion with W. Bro. Victor W. Keene, an Ass. PGM, when it was commented on the large number of ex-scouts and former Leaders who were also members of the Craft.

W. Bro. Keene suggested that it was time for Warwickshire to have a Scout Lodge.  W. Bro. Franklin discussed the idea with W.Bro.Denis G.Vaughton, PGStB who quickly pointed out that he had wanted this for some years.

The views of other 'Masonic Scouters' were canvassed and after many planning meetings, the Lodge was finally consecrated on 12th. July 1997 with 20 Founding Members.

The Lodge was sponsored by the Lodge of Impartiality No. 5101. The Consecrating Officer was R. W. Bro. Stanley A. Lates, Provincial Grand Master for Warwickshire.

At the first Installation Meeting in April 1998 all of the Officers of the Lodge were re-appointed to the same office with W.Bro.O.A.Franklin continuing for a second year.

July 5th 2007, Anniversary Meeting.

This short meeting marked the 10th Anniversary of the lodge’s formation.  The Worshipful Master felt that it would be a nice gesture if the original master and wardens were invited to close the lodge, which they duly did.

To mark the event the evening concluded with an invitation to ladies and gentlemen to dine with us.  Over 60 enjoyed a splendid meal with few formalities.  A little unique un-rehearsed entertainment from members of  the Impartiality “Imps” with W.Bro. Graham Steen on keyboard, together with five others plus one co-opted member from “up north” was also provided.

One visitor said that her father and uncles were all Freemasons in Ireland and that as she had enjoyed the “craich” so much she wanted to join a lady mason’s lodge.  As there were two lady masons present they were soon put in touch.

The evening will be remembered for many a while.
